Apartment Aramon - testimonial

We spent an enjoyable week’s holiday in Canaules. The comfortable and well-appointed apartment is in an a attractive old stone Mas and the site benefits from a lovely swimming pool and terrace area. Our stay was very relaxed and problem-free, however there are helpful caretakers on hand to deal with any issues that may arise.

The apartment is situated in a small village in a wine-producing area and we made the most of our time visiting local vineyards and sampling their products! If you’re eating out, there is a great choice of restaurants close at hand – all are very good and some first class.

The local town of Anduze with its famous Bamboo Garden is well worth a visit. Anduze is the gateway to the Cevennes National Park which offers some stunning scenery and walking. Another must is a trip to nearby Uzes with its lively and extensive market – you can even drive down to the Mediterranean very easily. St Maries de la Mer, Aigues Mortes, Pavalas- les- Flots, Le Grande Motte & Sete.

We found the apartment at Canaules an excellent place to spend a relaxing holiday and a very good base for touring the area.

We stayed in the Aramon apartment at La Bastide, Canuales, hoping for a restful and authentic French experience and we were not disappointed!

The stress of our hectic lives was lifted immediately on arriving at sunset to the rustic and homely surroundings in the heart of the Languedoc wine region. A dip in the pool at 7pm (still 27C) to wash away the (not very difficult) fly and drive from Montpellier was the perfect start to our holiday before supper with some excellent local wine. The kitchen was stocked with essentials to get started if you don’t have the chance to stock up at a number of excellent hypermarkets and the cooling stonework and tiling of the apartments living and bedrooms made the warm summer evenings comfortable for the duration of our stay. Our 4-year-old was delighted to find a range of children’s toys and books which kept her entertained throughout the evenings on the patio or when not playing on the swings and slide just between the apartments and the pool.

Canuales is a quiet village and the walls of La Bastide provide ample protection from the light traffic sounds or occasional tractors working the local vineyards, of which there are too many to choose from for tasting but those we did make it too with our 4-year-old were very family friendly and welcoming. This continued throughout a number of the local towns which are easily accessible and the Anduze market is a must, providing you get there early to park (free).

Despite the medieval buildings and beautiful scenery at the foot of the Cevennes national park, we were very keen to relax, swim and get some long overdue sun, and the pool at La Bastide was the highlight of the stay. It’s large, pool clean and secure for children with an unobtrusive gated fence and boasts a shower room, shaded courtyard and plenty of swim floats and woggles to borrow. Even with all apartments occupied, it never seemed busy and there was always room to knock out proper lengths without swimming into children and plenty of room and loungers to recover post exercise!

We can’t wait to return and if you’re looking for a family friendly home from home in a spectacular and empty region of France with a different local wine every night, I’m certain La Bastide will win you over too.
